The fashion world is all about a twist on the conventional – from the stripped back to glossed-up. Modelled by the likes of Gigi Hadid; this year’s fashion runway shows were full of unique beauty and unconventional makeup, proving that in the fashion world, there really are no rules
New Techniques
Maison Margiela – The natural color in the lips was blotted out with foundation, and then a hot, matte pink was applied in symmetrical almost heart-like blots, leaving a slim silhouette down the center. Top tip – blotting is the best way to make sure your lip looks lasts the longest.
Max Mara was also a big fan of matte. Satin Lips are dabbed with sheer pewter shadow for a muted look – bold but very effective! Keep the rest of the look neutral so that your pout stays center stage…
Brow Power
Moschino concentrated on rose neutral lips teamed with shiny and sharp cat eyes and no-nonsense brows. Brows are groomed using a special brow brush and framed using a brow serum to frame them into place for a long lasting result. Use a kohl eyeliner to form a smokey cat eye and smudge using a blender brush. Master the neutral rose lips by dabbing on a matte lip color and blotting for a longer lasting finish.
Modeled by beautiful Gigi Hadid, Versace went for an even bolder statement by pairing golden smoky shadow, swept up in the top corners of the eyes with pillow pout nude lips. Recreate this punchy look by lining the eyes with a glittery gold kohl, dabbing a little bit of bright gold shadow into the inner corners of the eye. Blend a bronze shadow up and into the outer corners of the eyelid in a winged shape and finish off with lashings of mascara. Then highlight the cheekbones ever so slightly by sweeping up baked bronzer on the apples of your cheeks.
Now for the beauty pout – using a nude lip liner, trace and fill in your lips with liner first. The waxy ingredients in the liner means that your lipstick will stay put- the less we have to touch up the better, right? Use a lip brush to apply a matte nude color (or if you are fairer skinned then go for a dusky pink shade), making sure that you blot after each layer. On the final layer, dab on a little clear gloss and you’re good to go!
In the Red
1940’s Throwback
Alice Temperley – Charlotte Tilbury recreated the French Riviera with a 40’s moment, making it all about a healthy, glowing complexion. Prepped with magic cream and a light layer of healthy glow, a slight contour and lots of highlight (on the apple of the cheek too). The look was combined with a matte red lip for that needed pop of glamour. To get the best definition, use a beauty pencil eyeliner.
Queen of HeartsDolce & Gabbana went for a similar makeup look – Polished and lengthy lashes with precise crimson lips. Create a radiant complexion by applying a glow primer before the foundation and follow up by sweeping a rosy blush over the cheeks – just a hint to highlight the apples. Then for the pout – To get more pillow on that pout, tap the fingers over the lips to build the perfect tone and get top definition by applying an illuminating product over the Cupid ’s bow. Rose-red lips got the glossy makeover. The Makeup Philosophy? Grown up yet youthful and fresh. The perfect non-gloop red lip = a matte red lip plus a clear gloss on top. Brows unkempt and rosy cheeks/blush with a nude foundation.
