Acne is an incredibly common skin condition that everyone deals with at some point in their life. It is an annoying, possibly painful, and unappealing condition. Fortunately, it is fairly easy to treat and there are also many things you can do to prevent further breakouts from happening. (Image Credit: Deedee86/Pixabay)

Keep your face clean

The golden rule for a healthy and acne free face is to clean it properly. Washing your face seems a pretty simple task that no one could do wrong. However, both over-washing and under-washing can cause trouble for your skin. Maintaining a daily face washing routine will reduce the chances to experience sudden breakouts. Dermatologists recommend us to wash our face twice a day to remove impurities, dead skin cells, and extra oil. Washing your face more than two times a day can actually do more harm than good. Use warm water and an acne face wash to clean your face and make it feel tingly fresh. However, promoting clean and healthy skin is not only done by applying anti-acne products topically – it also requires the intake of home remedies in the form of vitamin supplements which decrease oil production in the skin on your face.

Don’t pop your pimples

Although it is tempting, popping or squeezing a pimple will not necessarily help you get rid of the problem. Squeezing can push bacteria deeper into the skin layers causing more swelling and redness. It may also lead to spreading the infection, leave you with permanent scars, and ultimately worsen your acne. If you leave it alone, it will disappear on its own without leaving any reminder that it was there.

Choose the right skin care products

Many acne products contain ingredients that leave your skin dry after you use them. Although your acne problem may be caused by the excess of oil, there are skin care products made for oily or combination skin. Look for noncomedogenic products that will minimize dryness and skin peeling.

Limit makeup

It may be really tempting to use makeup to cover up your pimples or acne scars. However, by applying layers of concealer on your face you are only going to make everything worse. Doing so may clog your pores and trigger breakouts that will only worsen your acne condition. Especially if you have acne, you should try to go as natural as possible and when you do have to wear makeup use good products. To prevent breakouts, choose oil-free, non-comedogenic products.

Hydrate from the inside out

Dehydration can make your body signal your skin’s oil glands to produce more oil causing the appearance of acne. It will also make your skin look dull and will promote inflammation and redness. As your skin is an organ in your body like any other, dermatologists recommend us to drink at least 8 glasses of water each day to ensure a healthy and glowing skin.

Eliminate Sugar

Sugar is a sneaky culprit that can be teh cause of acne. Try to rid your diet of processed foods and unnatural sugars. Stick to an all natural diet with fruits and vegetables that are rich in natural nutrients to keep your body healthy and give you beautiful skin.

Avoid touching your face

Our hands are the most exposed body parts to bacteria and dirt. You touch hundreds of things throughout the day and you only wash your hands a few times a day. Therefore, touching your face with your hands can cause pore-clogging impurities to get transferred to your skin. Try to wash your hands regularly and to touch your face as little as possible.
