If you’re a sunbather who likes to sip margaritas beside the sea, few beaches can compare to Medano. The beach is lined with luxury hotel, timeshare and villa resorts (including two Pueblo Bonito properties) as well as a host of restaurant-bars and jet ski, kayak, boogie board and other rental shacks, making it the center of social life in Cabo. It’s also packed with bikini-clad sunbathers and hawkers selling tourist tat, especially in peak season and during holiday weeks.
To avoid the crowds, stray a mile or so to Chileno Beach, a Blue Flag-Certified beach that attracts locals. Its calm azure waters are ideal for swimming and snorkeling, and it’s a great place to stretch your legs with a beach stroll or take a panga boat tour to visit Land’s End — the pointy cliffs that protrude from the Baja peninsula.
For a quiet respite from the crowds, head to Playa Santa Maria, a horseshoe-shaped beach wedged into a protected bay and hidden from view by stony cliffs and prickly cactus growths. This Blue Flag-Certified beach is a favorite with families for its calm water and marine sanctuary status. It’s also a great spot to enjoy the sunrise or sunset, and you can even go scuba diving here. It’s one of the best snorkeling beaches in Los Cabos.
The glitzy Playa El Medano is ground zero for Spring Breakers and draws crowds throughout the year. This two-mile stretch of bars, restaurants and umbrella-shaded sunbeds also attracts local vendors for fun shopping.

Medano Beach
The center of all activities in Los Cabos, Medano Beach is a two-mile stretch of soft sand backed by luxury resorts, palapa-topped cantinas and plenty of places to grab food and drinks. It’s the place to be for anyone looking to play in the water and take part in the multitude of beach parties that are held here, especially during Spring Break.
Despite its lively atmosphere, Medano Beach is still a very safe swimming beach. However, if you do plan on spending some time in the water, be sure to bring along a sunhat, sunscreen and a swimsuit (or bikini). Also don’t forget your towel so you can dry off after getting out of the ocean or pool.
Medano Beach is a popular spot for surfing and other water sports, as well as beach volleyball. You can also rent kayaks and wave runners from the various vendors on the beach. And the location closest to town means it’s prime sales territory for hats, T-shirts, silver jewelry, frozen drinks, snow cones and more.
Although the area is most lively during Spring Break, it’s crowded year-round with bikini-clad tourists and locals alike. So it’s best to arrive early to secure your favorite spot on the beach. Especially if you’re planning on staying at one of the many Cabo San Lucas hotels right on the beach.

Lover’s Beach
The beach known as Lover’s Beach (Playa del Amor) is a breathtaking cove surrounded by rocky cliffs and turquoise waters. This is one of the best swimming beaches in Cabo and a great spot for sunbathing, kayaking, snorkeling, and more. It’s also a great option for families with kids since the water here is calm and safe to swim in.
You can reach Lover’s Beach by hopping on a water taxi from Medano or the marina and taking the short ride over to the beach. This is an excellent option if you want to avoid the crowds at other beaches like Cabo San Lucas.
This beach is unique in that it borders both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. The Pacific side is called Divorce Beach and can be rough in the water, but the Sea of Cortez side is much more tranquil and is a wonderful spot for swimming and snorkeling.
The azure water here is some of the most beautiful in the world and has a range of marine life to explore. You can find green parrot fish, striped sergeant major fish, and seals. There are also eye-catching coral-encrusted rocks to see around the beach. During your time at the beach, you’ll also be able to take in the incredible views of El Arco and all the other breathtaking landmarks made up of dramatic rock formations around it.

Cerritos Beach
A long sand beach with warm waves and little to no rocks makes Cerritos a perfect swimming and surfing beach. The sand is also finer and darker than other beaches in Los Cabos. This makes it a great choice for those with sensitive skin, or who simply want to soak up the sun without worrying about burning.
Surfing enthusiasts can enjoy a day at the famous Cerritos Beach with an experienced instructor. You’ll be picked up in the morning and driven to the beach where you’ll learn to surf on a soft-top board. The instructor will give you plenty of individual attention, so you’ll quickly get the hang of the basics.
Other than surfing, Cerritos is a great beach to enjoy all sorts of water activities, including snorkeling, scuba diving, jet ski tours, ATV adventures, bike rentals, and more. The calm waters are also a good place to swim or take a relaxing beach massage.
While Cerritos is a popular beach for tourists and locals, the community is still fairly underdeveloped. This is one of the reasons it has a more laidback vibe than other Los Cabos beaches. It’s a great spot to enjoy a quiet beach getaway, or as an ideal base for exploring nearby Los Cabos and Todos Santos. The small town center of El Pescadero is just a 15-minute drive away, as are many restaurants and bars.
