It’s a highly powerful electric saloon car from Silicon Valley. The story isn’t new but the product is. Its name is Lucid Air and it’s here to make an impact in the automobile industry.
The rivals of this electric car aren’t just limited to Tesla. While the Tesla Model S was naturally on Lucid’s radar, however, when the engineering team made this car, they had another car on top of their mind, the Mercedes S-Class.
Engine and Performance
The Air features a single electric motor driving the rear wheels and produces 480 horsepower. Other models have dual electric motors which provide all-wheel drive and a variety of horsepower ratings. Moreover, the Touring model generates 620 horses, whereas the Grand Touring makes 1050. Moreover, the car reaches from 0-60 mph in just 3 seconds.
The Air has the traditional steel coil springs, instead of air springs. Still, the driving feels calm and smooth in the Smooth drive mode. However, the main problem with the car is the low-performance tires, which produce notable road noise. The newest model, Lucid Air Sapphire, features three electric motors. The additional motor is adjusted in the rear and claims to have amazing acceleration performance.
Charging and Battery Life
This luxury car has currently the longest range of any electric vehicle present today. The Air can travel between 410 to 425 miles per charge. Moreover, the Grand Touring model offers up to 516 miles of range. Moreover, the car features a 112.0kWh battery pack and DC fast-charging capability. New owners will also enjoy three years of free fast charging at Electrify America Charging Stations. The great thing is that there is no limit to how many times owners charge their cars, as long as the car is used for personal and not commercial purposes.
Interior
The interior of the car is quite spacious and luxurious. The rear seats are generous in size, however, the legroom is somewhere in between the Tesla Model S and Mercedes S-Class. Moreover, the standard rear seating is comfortable for three adults. There is also an optional Executive seating option, which adds the recline function for ultimate comfort. The luggage space is strong, between 458 liters in the rear and 280 liters up front.
Then, there are the materials. You can have leather if you want. However, Lucid Air is offering an animal-free alternative known as PurLuxe. Moreover, you can trim the doors and doors in alpaca wool trim. Although it isn’t completely animal free, it is more renewable and sustainable than cowhide.
Infotainment
The Air features a sophisticated infotainment system that has a large upper touchscreen that flows out of a digital gauge cluster. There is also a tablet-like lower touchscreen that handles additional functions. Lucid states that the system’s voice-recognition software will respond to natural speed patterns. Moreover, the interface features an assistant which learns the user’s preferred music and climate settings. There are also a set of toggles for temperature and fan speed as well as a roller to adjust the volume of the audio system.
Price
Depending upon the model, Lucid Air’s price ranges between $87,400 and $138,000. For more information, visit the Lucid Motors website.
