Beverly Hills Magazine: Jennie please tell us your personal history, where were you born, where you grew up, family, currently living where? A little background about yourself.
Jennie Levin: Thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me. I am delighted to answer these questions for your readers. Well, I was born in Central Asia, in the capital of Uzbekistan. When I was 13, my family immigrated to Israel, where I finished school and then completed my bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Literature.
I then started working on my PhD in Linguistics, but I couldn’t help but feel that something was missing. As a woman growing up in the Middle East, I wanted to have more power to stand up for myself and other women. So, when I turned 26, I came to the United States to study law and got admitted into Berkeley School of Law where I obtained my law degree from.
After graduating, I joined a big law firm where I specialized in defending big pharmaceutical companies that were being sued for side-effects caused by their medications.
Beverly Hills Magazine: When did you start your law practice?
Jennie Levin: In 2010, I opened my own law firm Law Offices of Jennie Levin, P.C. where we focus on representing injured people, not big companies. This is exactly where I wanted to be—standing up for people and helping them in their most difficult times. We represent people that were injured as a result of an accident as pedestrians or drivers, including Uber and Lyft.
Beverly Hills Magazine: What is the most challenging thing about being an attorney?
Jennie Levin: I specialize in catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. It is heartbreaking to see some of the injuries and how someone’s negligence can change a person’s life forever. All we can do in the personal injury framework is get the maximum compensation for our clients. Sadly, no amount of money can ever replace a person’s leg or arm or bring back their loved ones.
Beverly Hills Magazine: The most rewarding?
Jennie Levin: The most rewarding part about my job is knowing that I am needed and that what I do helps people. Just recently, for example, we were able to secure a 7-figure settlement for our client, who had to have a spinal fusion surgery as a result of being hit by a reckless driver. My client was here all alone, living paycheck to paycheck, working as a janitor. The settlement we obtained for our client enabled her to fulfill her long dream—she was able to go back to Mexico and reunite with her family.
Beverly Hills Magazine: What is your business mission?
Jennie Levin: I started out my career defending big companies. It broke my heart seeing how innocent people were bullied by big corporations. I decided to start my own law firm to help the injured—not big companies. The business mission of Law Offices of Jennie Levin, P.C. is to do well and do good. To protect and advocate for our clients and to be there for them during their most difficult times.
Beverly Hills Magazine: What makes your law practice different from others of its kind?
Jennie Levin: There are many firms that claim to be best or biggest. Law Offices of Jennie Levin, P.C., on the other hand, is a boutique firm that has been consistently rated as the top and leading personal injury law firm in California. My firm has recently been rated as a top three personal injury firm by threebestrated.com and we made a top 100 Verdicts in California this year. This recognition and results would not be possible without the amazing hard work and support of everyone in my team.
Beverly Hills Magazine: What’s the best advice you would give a client who has just been injured?
Jennie Levin: I always tell my clients to be grateful for what they have. To be grateful they made it alive and to be grateful that they have people who are able to help them and care for them. There is nothing more important in life than health and family. Health is our number one priority and then it is getting every compensation possible for my clients’ pain and suffering.
Beverly Hills Magazine: How do you balance your professional and personal life?
Jennie Levin: Law is such a fascinating field. It sucks you in and consumes you completely and there is no such thing as doing it halfway. There is always something new to learn and always more to do and if you want to be good at it, you need to dedicate yourself to it completely. Being a perfectionist, it was extremely difficult to find the right balance between work and personal life. But I realized that having so many clients and employees depend on me, I owe it to myself and to them to find the time to take care of myself, so I can be there for them. That is why I try to eat healthily and work out and find time for things that feed my soul, such as spending time with my daughter. I also play the piano and I love the outdoors.
Beverly Hills Magazine: What were your childhood dreams?
Jennie Levin: I grew up in a communistic USSR. As a child, I was dreaming of living in a country that respects and protects basic human rights and has a justice system that actually works and is not a mere facade. I always tell my clients that our legal system here is in the U.S. is not perfect, but it is far better than most places and we are fortunate to be living here.
Beverly Hills Magazine: How do you take care of your spiritual self?
Jennie Levin: I love yoga and I start my day with a meditation. It helps me put things in perspective and organize my thoughts and my day.
Beverly Hills Magazine: If you had to give a piece of advice to aspiring attorneys out there, what would it be?
Jennie Levin: Success is 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration. Law is a very demanding field with a vast body of knowledge and any shortcut or sloppiness will play into the opponent’s hand.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Do you have a life motto, quote, or Bible Scripture you live by?
Jennie Levin: Yes, I believe that we must always be in integrity with ourselves and with others. It is important to keep the promises we give to ourselves and to others. It is also important to strive to have our actions, thoughts, feelings in alignment with each other. When that happens, we know that we are doing the right thing.
Beverly Hills Magazine: If God granted you one wish, what would you wish for?
Jennie Levin: I would wish for poverty to cease. It saddens me to see that despite all our planet’s bounty and natural resources, there is still so much poverty in the world.
Beverly Hills Magazine: What do you want to be remembered for?
Jennie Levin: It is incredibly touching to get calls and cards from past clients who call or write to me months or sometimes years after I settled their case, saying they remember me and have me in their prayers. This gives me the strength and motivation to continue working hard for my clients and doing what I do for them.
