Lauren Holly had made a name for herself not only as a fashion designer, but as a Hollywood star for her breakout roles in “Picket Fences” and Dumb & Dumber. In addition to her upcoming film & TV projects, she also recently starred alongside Emma Roberts in February, the darkly beautiful horror film that premiered to rave reviews at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

We got up close and personal with this Hollywood fashionista to find out more about her fashion line and film career.

Beverly Hills Magazine: How did you get into acting?

Lauren Holly: Growing up it was always a hobby but I didn’t realize it was going to be my career until after college when I auditioned for a role in a play that Francis Ford Coppola saw and afterwards convinced me to pursue it. From that I started modeling for Eli Coppola, the fashion designer, while I was auditioning for various television parts until I got my first major role, and I haven’t stopped since.

Beverly Hills Magazine: What is your process as an actress?

Lauren Holly: It really depends on the part…My preparation will vary depending on if the character has an accent, or whether or not I need to do research about the character’s lifestyle, or if they are similar to me in ways that I can draw on my own inner resources. Each role is very different and requires different work from me.

Beverly Hills Magazine: What’s the biggest difference between film and television for you?

Lauren Holly: TV is awesome because there are so many great roles for women my age, and there actually always have been great roles for women throughout my career. When you’re on a series, the cast becomes like a family, and as an actor you don’t always get to have that experience. Films are shot in a much shorter time frame, so you can really dive into the character and have a more immersive experience.

Beverly Hills Magazine: What is your opinion of “Hollywood”?

Lauren Holly: It’s just like high school! There are still the cool kids, the geeks, all the different groups.

Beverly Hills Magazine: What are some of the trends taking place in the “Hollywood”?

Lauren Holly: The biggest trend is the growth in the landscape in television. There are so many channels and outlets now that it’s completely changed the way people watch TV. Binge watching on Netflix and Hulu is the new normal, and it’s created a lot more opportunities for us actors.

Beverly Hills Magazine: What advice would you give to actresses looking for success in the entertainment business?

Lauren Holly: Be true yourself and work hard. True success does not come easily.

Beverly Hills Magazine: You’ve launched a Fashion Collection “LAUREN’S Closet” – What sparked that?

Lauren Holly: I made a movie called After the Ball, and the wardrobe was just fabulous and it was created by Le Chateau. I worked with the owners throughout the film, and we decided to work together and create a collection for the working woman who can be stylish whether she’s running errands or walking a red carpet.

Lauren's Closet Collection

Beverly Hills Magazine: Why shop the Lauren’s Closet collection?

Lauren Holly: The collection allows you to easily dress for day and night and casual to dressy. We have shoes, bags, jewelry, sunglasses, and more! Woman can really look and feel their best when wearing anything from the collection. You’ll love the tuxedo jacket I created for the Holiday collection.

Beverly Hills Magazine: Have you discovered a personal purpose in what you do?

Lauren Holly: I think one’s purpose can change throughout their lifetime, but right now I am a single mother with 3 boys, so my purpose is trying to make 3 great men.

Beverly Hills Magazine: You’re a superwoman with all that you do! Do you have a personal motto or philosophy that you live by that allows you to be so creative and expressive, and manage it all?

Lauren Holly: Oh thank you! One day at a time 🙂

When she isn’t busy on set in Vancouver or researching trends and designing the next season’s collection at Le Chateau’s headquarters in Montreal, Holly enjoys spending time raising her 3 boys at their home in Toronto. Become a fan of Lauren Holly on Instagram and Twitter.
