Dr. Hany Demian: It has been a long journey. After graduating in Egypt, I realized the market was oversaturated. I pursued a fellowship in Columbus, Ohio, but struggled to secure a job. Visiting Canada, I decided to stay but had to transition from surgery to family practice. That wasn’t fulfilling, so I moved into emergency medicine, where I worked for eight years. After getting married, I sought a more stable schedule and discovered chronic pain management. My mentor encouraged me to start a clinic, which quickly grew into multiple locations. Eventually, I acquired Biospine Institute in the U.S., and we’ve nearly tripled in size since then.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Can you explain the missions of Biospine Institute and Pain Care Clinics and how they complement each other?
Dr. Hany Demian: Pain Care Clinics started as traditional pain management centers in Canada, growing into the largest in the country. We wanted to offer more advanced treatments, including regenerative medicine. To expand patient care, we acquired Biospine Institute, a leader in minimally invasive spine surgery. This vertical integration allows us to provide a holistic treatment journey from pain management to surgical solutions.
Beverly Hills Magazine: What is your presence in the U.S., and do you have plans for expansion?
Dr. Hany Demian: Biospine currently has seven locations in Florida, with two major surgical centers in Tampa and Orlando. Our facilities are ranked among the top surgical centers in the U.S. We plan to expand into states like Michigan and New York to strengthen connections between the Canadian and U.S. markets.

Dr. Hany Demian: I saw firsthand that chronic pain patients make up a significant percentage of emergency room visits. In Canada, one in five people suffer from chronic pain, and in the U.S., it’s two out of every eight. Unlike emergency medicine, where patient interactions are brief, pain management allows me to build long-term relationships and guide patients through their recovery journey.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Biospine offers a revolutionary microscopic back surgery. Can you explain how it works?
Dr. Hany Demian: Traditional spine surgery requires large incisions and months of recovery. Our microscopic back surgery takes only 15 minutes, with a small 4-5 mm incision. We separate muscles rather than cutting them, allowing patients to return to work in just 72 hours. It’s truly a game-changing procedure.
