The Hyperion XP-1 has been launched to show the world why hydrogen-electric vehicles are the future. It has amazing performance, low weight, a huge range, and a futuristic design that will make people turn their heads when they see it on the road.
The interesting thing about this vehicle is that it doesn’t contain the lithium-ion batteries which you find in most electric cars present today. Instead, it swaps them out with hydrogen tanks and supercapacitors, which weigh less and operate more efficiently. However, there are only a handful of hydrogen cars present out there.
Engine and Performance
If the technical specifications of Hyperion XP-1 hold in the upcoming production model, then the car certainly achieves its goal of showing off hydrogen performance capabilities. The great thing about Hyperion is that it reaches from 0 to 60mph in just 2.2 seconds. When you hold the accelerator pedal long enough, the model reaches its claimed top speed of 221 mph.
An impressive aspect of Hyperion XP-1 is the reported driving range of 1,016 miles. The credit for this goes to the car’s curb weight of under 2,275 pounds, aerodynamic design, and a high capacity of hydrogen stored onboard. For reference, the 3,990 pounds Hyundai Nexo manage a driving range of 380 miles.
The filling of XP-1’s hydrogen is a faster affair than charging an electric car. However, finding a hydrogen station remains a difficult task in most places. Hyperion hopes to ease this search by working with partners to build hydrogen stations.
Exterior
Hyperion XP-1 has a robust titanium carbon monocoque frame with titanium-infused body panels. It doesn’t contain any heavy batteries, so it is quite lightweight. The hydrogen is filled in the specially designed carbon-fiber tanks while the fuel cell powers all four wheels, thanks to the presence of robust electric motors.
When it comes to exterior styling, the XP-1 resembles an intergalactic spacecraft on wheels. The front portion has slim headlights and a low mounted-mounted grille which gives the car a menacing vibe. Moreover, the car has solar panels which move to follow the sun’s rays; it also acts as an aero kit to provide more downforce and better handling.
Interior Features
The interior of the car is as high-tech as the exterior. The seats of Hyperion XP-1 are quite spacious and comfortable. Moreover, it has a 98-inch curved screen with a dashboard. The car also has touch-free gestures to control the in-cabin features. Moreover, the wrap-around glass canopy gives an airy feel.
Price
