Whether life with your special someone is going well, or things have been on the rocky side lately, it’s always a good idea to be on the lookout for ways to work on and improve your relationship.

Think of it this way: Falling in love is relatively easy; however, it’s the staying in love part of a relationship that can require work and commitment. (Image Credit: Free Photos/Pixabay)

Here are four tips that can help keep the spark alive in your relationship and repair any issues you might be having:

  1.  Spend Quality Time Together

When you first started dating someone, you likely spent hours talking on the phone and/or going on adventures together. As time goes by, though, it can be easy to let work, family and other commitments get in the way of spending quality time with your sweetie.

While it might be tempting to stay in touch via phone, text message and email, nothing replaces face-to-face time and communication. No matter how busy life gets, find small pockets of time every day to connect with your loved one with no devices in sight. Reconnect over a cup of coffee in the morning, go on a walk together after work, or sign up for a dance or cooking class.

Indeed, these are all great ways to experience quality time together and stay connected in a personal way.

  1. Make Physical Intimacy a Priority

If work is stressing you out, and/or you have kids to care for, you might be too tired at the end of the day for a romantic evening. While sex is typically an important part of a committed relationship, remember it’s not the only way to be physically intimate.

For instance, beyond taking it to the bedroom all the time, you can also make it a point to hold hands while walking with your partner through the grocery store parking lot, hug and kiss your sweetie on a regular basis and cuddle on the couch while watching a movie after dinner.

Romantic gifts are also a way to help inspire physical intimacy. In that vein, buying your significant other sexy lingerie, like a matching bra and panty set, can help to spark more romance, as could a beautiful bouquet of flowers and/or a couples massage at a local spa.

  1. Notice the Positive

Sometimes, after a long day when you’re not feeling the best, it can be easy to focus on the little things your honey does that drive you crazy. Instead, strive to notice the positive aspects of your partner as often as you can. For couples going through a rough patch, this can be especially challenging.

But, if you come up with even a few, small things that you love about the other person — think of the times she makes you laugh or that she’s a good listener — it will help keep negative feelings at bay and allow you to remember why you fell in love in the first place.

  1. Be a Good Communicator

If you communicate well regularly with your sweetheart, chances are you feel good about your relationship. To do this effectively, start by telling your honey what you need or want, rather than assuming he or she will automatically know what you’re thinking or how you’re feeling.

Additionally, strive to be a good listener, rather than merely hearing what your significant other is telling you. This doesn’t mean you always have to agree on everything. But by actively listening and respecting what your partner is saying, you will show him or her that you care, while improving your communication skills.

    1. Get Married

When two people decide to get married it adds a level of commitment and honor to a relationship that otherwise would never be there. Do not fall into the cultural trap of living together and then never getting married. Most couples break up when they do this, instead of actually getting married. Marriage is a scared vow before God, so honor each other by getting married and then build a beautiful life together.

Relationships Need and Deserve Work

You love your partner and want to be together. By making to work on your relationship a priority, you will get through the rocky times together and make the great times even better.
