The Big Break

Early in her acting career, Jessica Alba showed remarkable promise. In fact, she was only 13 when she filmed her first jobs including Camp Nowhere (1994) and The Secret World of Alex Mack (1994). But Hollywood really took notice of the young starlet during the two seasons of Dark Angel (2000-2002). Co-created by James Cameron, who was fresh off the success of his hit Titanic, Dark Angel was the famous director’s television debut.

Jessica Alba led the cast as a genetically-engineered super-soldier. Her performance garnered praise from critics and earned a Golden Globe nomination. The show was also a fan favorite for its female empowerment themes.

In addition, the celebrity displayed remarkable physical fitness during the show. Using a combination of martial arts, gymnastics, strength training and dance, she kept herself in fighting shape for the show. Not unexpectedly, her physique inspired a workout routine that is still popular today.

Versatile Celebrity

For a number of year, Jessica Alba continued to star in movies that required a great degree of athleticism. But after she married producer Cash Warren in 2008, her choice of project transitioned toward romantic comedies. And the talented actress was well-suited to the genre.

In 2010, she joined the ensemble cast of Valentine’s Day. A Garry Marshall production, the movie boasted a slew of Hollywood heavy hitters such as Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Queen Latifah, Anne Hathaway and Shirley MacLaine. Critics were not fans of the film but audiences disagreed. In fact, to date, it has the third-highest February opening of all time.

While Jessica Alba continued to act, she greatly reduced the amount of roles she accepted after the birth of her first child. Instead of Hollywood, she chose to focus on mommyhood and other pursuits.

Some of Jessica Alba’s other movie and television works include: Flipper (1995-1997), Honey (2003), Sin City (2005), Fantastic Four (2005), The Ten (2007), Good Luck Chuck (2007), Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), The Love Guru (2008), Little Fockers (2010), Spy Kids 4-D: All the Time in the World (2011), The Spoils of Babylon (2014), Sin City: A Day to Kill For (2014), Barely Lethal (2015), The Veil (2016) and El Camino Christmas (2017).

A Passionate Businesswoman

In addition to her acting talents, Jessica Alba has impressive business acumen. In 2012, the mother-of-three founded The Honest Company. Inspired by her first daughter and illnesses she herself had as a child, she sought to create a line of products free of questionable chemicals. Their first line consisted of household goods, diapers and body care products. The company enjoyed early success. The following year, Jessica Alba wrote a book, The Honest Life, which focused of her family’s natural, non-toxic lifestyle.

As The Honest Company continued to grow, they discovered a need for a non-toxic beauty line. And Honest Beauty was born! This new company focused solely on skincare and beauty items.

Jessica Alba and her partners share a passion for non-toxic, chemical-free personal care products. As such, it is not surprising that they support similar endeavors. In 2015, The Honest Company sponsored a lab at New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital to explore links between common household chemicals and autism.

Philanthropic Endeavors

Beyond The Honest Company’s interest in philanthropy, Jessica Alba herself has many charitable interests. Many of her undertakings involve children’s welfare such as education and healthcare. Not unexpectedly, she also personally works toward the reduction in chemicals in household products. In 2011, even before founding The Honest Company, the celebrity had involvement in a 2-day lobby of Congress regarding the Safe Chemicals Act. And again she visited Washington, D.C. in 2015 when the government investigated replacing the 1976 Substances Control Act.

In recent years, she also promoted voter registration and the rallied against the significant decrease in the great white shark population.
