When you’re young there never seems to be a problem making friends. As you get older however, establishing new friendships becomes a little more difficult. That’s not to say you don’t meet new people. There are always new people to meet. Deeper relationships, on the other hand, are much harder to find. The internet is a great tool for so many different things it stands to reason it’s going to be able to help you make new friends. Here are some of the most popular ways to do it.
Use an App
There’s an app for almost everything, so of course there’s going to be one you can use to help you make friends. There’s a good selection of free apps to help you connect with people, in just the same way as you might look for a date. Nextdoor, MeetMe and We3 are just a few examples.
Find a Buddy to Workout With
If you’re a fitness freak and haven’t managed to make friends at your local gym, try apps such as Workout Buddies or Bvddy. They’ll help you connect with exercise partners who can help you reach your fitness goals. Find a friend to train for a marathon, to hike with or to meet up with for gym sessions.
Sign up for a Class
If there’s something you’ve been meaning to learn for a while but haven’t managed to find the time use the internet to find some local classes. Local schools, community centers and colleges tend list their courses online.
Try Online Dating
Online dating hasn’t always had the best of reputations, but those days are long gone. There are several online dating sites you can sign up for. You’ll have no problems finding your perfect partner, although you might need some extra dating advice if you want to be certain of keeping her.
Volunteer
If you want to meet people who share your passions and values volunteering is a good thing to do. Using the internet you’re able to find and sign up for local volunteering opportunities. Visit sites such as Idealist, Create the Good, or Volunteer Match and select the relevant criteria.
Adopt a Dog
Dogs make great companions, but they’re also great for bringing people together. It’s not a decision to be taken lightly as they are a big responsibility. However, if you’ve got the time and inclination, you’ll be able to find a pet using Petfinder or Adopt a Dog.
Take Part in Local Events
Wherever you live there are going to be a variety of local events you can take part in. There are many ways you can find out about upcoming events in your area. Use your favorite search engine or apps such as Eventbrite and Nearify.
If you’re prepared to make the effort, it’s almost impossible not to make friends when you move. Thanks to the internet, finding and making friends is a piece of cake.
