Whether you’re into Fashion Week catwalk obsession or not, what we see on the runway makes it into our collective wardrobes barely a few weeks after each show. With Kaia Gerber, daughter of 90s supermodel Cindy Crawford being the toast of Fashion Week just about everywhere, it’s simply not enough to just follow her Insta feed, how do you get her look?
The fact is, what you see in Fashion Week is an exaggerated take on the kinds of silhouettes that will stay at least for a season. Retailers deconstruct these fashion-forward looks into broad themes. So, what are the themes that have emerged so far? Sharp tailoring, bright colors, boots and flats, even evening gowns. To update your wardrobe for autumn, follow these style tips. Even if you only incorporate one key look, you will still be on point.
Wide-legged pants with a leotard-like top
Wide-legged or slouchy jeans over something form-fitting like a leotard or bodysuit is a major look. You should get away with it by substituting a suitably form-fitting blouse, or by hauling out any pants which fit loosely and isn’t a slim-fit leg cut. Key drivers of the look have been Balenciaga, Chanel and Stella McCartney.
Neon
Gaudy as it may be to some, neon is back! While the world’s leading designers did put their best fashion feet forward in bright colors, this actual neon trend is thanks to Kim Kardashian, as confirmed by Vogue. You don’t have to follow Kim’s head-to-toe neon look – one small pop of luminescent shine will do. Kim was also the driver of the super-small sunglasses trend. Make sure your wearable eyewear ensures you have great visibility and takes you from day to night with confidence. Contact lenses remain a popular choice in any outfit due to availability and comfort, with leading outlets now enabling you to order your contacts without prescription. Being able to order lenses online without an RX is the height of convenience. Usually, there’s a mere 48-hour turnaround meaning you’ll have your contacts ready long before you’ve pulled together your weekend outfit.
Statement leggings
Think printed or slogan leggings as espoused by the likes of Tom Ford and Victoria Beckham. The look wasn’t presented as athleisure wear but as a smart version of sporty chic. Wear it with a blazer, preferably, but you won’t go wrong with a good turtleneck either. Dress it up further with heels and a formal bag as you see fit.
Layer up
This season takes layering to a whole new level, as in, five-in-one coats as showcased by Balenciaga. Adapt the look by throwing a slouchy trench coat over your denim jacket. Instead of a coat over a jumper, think coat worn over a jacket, or another coat.
Ethical fashion
When Stella McCartney first introduced her brand as vegan, it had little appeal. No fur was a given, but McCartney took this further with her no skin, no feathers, and no leather stance thrown in. This season, the handbags that she’s showcased show that vegan fashion is sexy and here to stay.
This autumn’s top trends are more wearable than ever. All you need is one signature style update to see you through the season.
