Have you always wanted long, flowing locks like Jared Leto or Jason Mamoa? Or do you favour a more cropped look with a spiky front like the preferred style of David Beckham and Liam Hemsworth? (Image Credit: Free Photos/Pixabay)
Whatever your preference, you can’t deny that all these men have great hair. However, none of these celebrity hairstyles look particularly low maintenance, and you can only imagine how much work, from stylists, products and time, goes into achieving their flawless looks.
Not to worry, though, as you too can achieve an A-list hairstyle with just a little bit of TLC and a few professional hair care tips.
Don’t just wash and go
You may have a daily routine of jumping in the shower, quickly washing your hair and, well, that’s it. However, if you want to keep your hair in good condition, then you need to put a bit more effort into caring for it.
Firstly, you do not need to shampoo your hair every day, as this can actually strip your hair of its natural oils, making it appear dryer and duller. You should also ensure that you choose a gentle shampoo that does not contain too many nasty chemicals that will damage your hair.
2-in-1 shampoo and conditioners are also a big no-no. Conditioning is an important step, and it should be carried out after shampooing to ensure that your hair is hydrated and manageable.
Get the drying process right
How often have you stepped out of the shower or bath and briskly rubbed your hair with a towel to within an inch of its life?
This may be just out of habit, or maybe you think that it will dry your hair quicker and save you some much-needed time, but this step in your grooming routine is very bad for your hair. Rubbing your hair too hard causes breakages, split ends and frizz. And that’s probably not the look that you want to achieve.
Instead, give your hair time to air dry, and if absolutely necessary, gently pat it with a towel to absorb some of the excess moisture. If you want to use a hairdryer to style your hair, then ensure you use the lowest heat setting available, and always stop drying before your hair is completely dry.
Don’t go overboard on products
The male grooming market is saturated with products, with everything from gels to waxes to pomades promising to transform your hair into whatever style you desire. However, putting too much product in your hair can make it appear heavy, flat and unnatural. The key to great-looking hair is in finding the right product for your hair type and the look that you want to achieve.
Do not let your head be turned by clever marketing ploys; if you find a product that works for you, stick to it.
Be realistic
You may want to rock long hair like Harry Styles, but do you have the patience and commitment to do so? Your hair grows about half an inch per month, so if you currently have a short, shaven look, it can take as much as a year for your locks to grow into a shaggy mane.
If you have thinning hair, it can be tempting to try and comb some of the longer sides over the top, where your hair is thinning the most, but be warned. This is never a good look. Men with thinning hair have two main options – get yourself down to the barber and ask for a short cut that will suit your thinning hairstyle, or look into an affordable hair transplant treatment that will give you the look that you desire.
Above all else, try and ensure that you give off an aura of confidence in your hair and the style you have chosen. No-one will notice if you have skipped a wash or have a few split ends if you act as though you look like a million dollars.
The key is in pulling it off, and if you can do that, you are already halfway to looking and feeling like an A-lister.
