We all have a bucket list, whether or not we write it down, of the things we’d like to do and the places we’d like to see while we still have the chance. Surprising, many of the things on our bucket list are probably shared by lots of other people, so if you’ve decided to go swimming with dolphins or sharks you may find there’s a bit of a queue before you can get your wet suit on. Similarly, the Pyramids of Egypt have more visitors than your local Walmart, so here are three great ideas for bucket list adventures you’ve probably never thought of.

Journey To The Lowest Point Of The Earth

You may not be able to journey to the center of the earth, Jules Verne-style, but you can journey to the lowest point of the earth by traveling to the Dead Sea. When you consider a strip you’ll want to ensure that your  stay at the Dead Sea is a comfortable one. Check out providers that can ensure that your trip to see a large salt lake situated between Jordan and Israel is like no other. You’ll have entered a world like no other. The incredible landscape is little changed since Biblical times, and yet there’s a wide variety of modern attractions to lose yourself in, from diving to spa sessions. It’s also famous, of course, for the fact that the salt content of the lake means you can float peacefully on the surface with no effort, an experience not to be missed.

The Land Of The Dead

It was once said of the capital of Italy’s Campania region, ‘see Naples and die’, but if you did just that you’d certainly be in good company. Naples is much friendlier than its reputation suggests, and there’s a lot to see and do there, and stunning Renaissance churches to visit. Perhaps its most unusual attraction, however, is its catacombs. The upper catacombs contain stunning frescoes, but the lower catacombs contain a large collection of skulls that have been collected over the centuries. It’s certainly not for the faint-hearted, but once seen it’s never forgotten.

Go Trekking In Bhutan

They call Bhutan, nestling in the Himalayas, the land of a thousand smiles, and it’s the only country in the world that measures Gross National Happiness as part of its happiness index. Until recently, Bhutan was practically closed to foreign tourists, but it has now opened its doors to a small number of tourists every year. This means that you can still get a taste of what the country is really like, and it can be an eye-opening and spiritually moving experience. The country only allowed television broadcasting and use of the internet in 1999, but that hasn’t prevented it from being one of the friendliest and most unique countries to visit.

Forget about visiting Machu Picchu or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and do something original, exciting, and maybe even a little frightening instead can be a wonderful experience to add in your weekend adventure. Staying at a Dead Sea resort, descending into Naples’ catacombs or visiting Bhutan will provide a lifetime’s worth of memories, and make you the envy of your friends. Isn’t that what a bucket list should really be about?
