Is there a more iconic muscle car than the Dodge Charger?  Appearing in films such as Bullitt, The Fast & The Furious, The Dukes Of Hazard, and Death Proof, the Charger has made a name for itself as one of the coolest cars driven by Hollywood daredevils as well as speedsters all over the world.

The Reinvention

Of course, when people think of the Charger their mind usually goes to places like the 1969 model. But does the Charger still have the same iconic quality more than half a century after it was first unveiled? Well, with the 2017 model Dodge hopes to reinvent it’s classic muscle cars while also bringing it roaring into the modern era. The question is, does it succeed?

Performance

Performance always needs to be the number one criteria of any muscle car, especially one as iconic as the Charger. Luckily the 2017 model does not disappoint in this regard. There are plenty of different engines available for the new Charger, but if you’re looking for true performance excellence, then you need to check out the Hellcat. Featuring a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that can take the car from 0-60mph in 4.1 seconds. The sheer thrill of getting behind the wheel of the Hellcat is something that needs to be experienced. Check out Dodge dealers near you and take one for a test drive to truly understand how good it feels. Of course, the other models aren’t exactly slouches in the performance department either!

Space and comfort

Looking for a spacious, comfortable sedan that’s perfect for you and your family? Then you’re out of luck. Sadly, the 2017 Challenger is neither of those things in comparison to other sedans. However, that’s not to say that you’re going to end up cramped or crushed every time you get into the car. The seats are large with great amounts of shoulder and legroom, especially in the front. However, the low ceiling may be a turnoff for taller drivers. It’s certainly not going to be the ideal family car. Let’s face it, if you’re buying a Charger, that’s probably not your primary motivation.

Safety

The standard safety features on the charger include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front seat side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags. You also have the option of rear collision sensors as well as a blind spot warning system and automatic braking. These optional extras might not seem worth it, but they really do add a huge feeling of security, something that makes a lot of difference in a car this powerful.

All in all, the 2017 Dodge Charger is pretty much everything that you want from an update of such a classic muscle car. It was never going to be the car for family road trips or doing the school run. If you want to feel the thrill of opening up that V8 engine and experience the sheer brash power and performance, this is it.  It’s one of the most iconic American cars in history, you really can’t go wrong.
