Recently, studies by Public Health England have shown that smokers who switch to vaping are at a whopping 95% lower risk of smoking-related health problems than those who continue to smoke cigarettes. Vaping was already on the rise before these figures were released, but now it’s quickly becoming more popular than ever before. Improved health isn’t the only reason to make the switch, either – lower costs, protecting those around you from second-hand smoke, improved appearance, and a far wider range of choices are just some of the biggest reasons that propelled many ex-smokers today to make the switch to their electronic cigarette. Since vaping does not contain any of the harmful toxins, chemicals and carcinogens found in traditional cigarettes, it’s one of the best nicotine replacement therapies out there for people who don’t want to lose the hand-to-mouth action or the social aspect of smoking, without the massive health risks involved. But, making the switch to vaping isn’t always as easy as it might look. Although it has similarities, vaping can be very different to smoking and take some time to get used to. We’ve put together some top tips to help you make a comfortable transition.

Tip #1. Get the Right Kit:

First and foremost, investing in the right vape kit from vapemate is a must, as getting one that doesn’t work well for you is going to leave you feeling unfulfilled. In fact, feeling like vaping just doesn’t come close to smoking a cigarette is one of the biggest reasons why people give up on their ambitions to switch and end up smoking regular cigarettes again. Investing a little more money into a more powerful e-cigarette mod and tank could be just what you need to leave you feeling satisfied when you vape. You can find advice online at greyhaze.co.uk, or head into your local e-cig store and speak to the experts, who’ll be able to help you find the right match for your needs. Vaping is a truly diverse industry with something to suit everybody but bear in mind that it could take some trial and error to finally find a set-up that you are comfortable with. Don’t just go with a kit because it’s working well for somebody else, as you could find yourself disappointed.

Tip #2. Find a Liquid That You Like:

Getting used to the different e-liquid tastes and flavours out there can actually be more challenging than it sounds when you are used to plan tobacco. So, be prepared to put some work in when it comes to finding an e-liquid that you enjoy. Many new vapers turn to tobacco flavoured e-liquids, which can be a great starting point as you already know what to expect and this will help to make your experience feel as close to smoking a cigarette as possible. But, be prepared over time for your taste buds to change; many people who’ve been vaping for a while move completely away from tobacco e-liquids and begin to explore the massive range of flavours available. E juice options are endless for vapers. One good tip to keep in mind is to opt for flavours that reflect the ones you enjoy in real life. For example, if you love coffee, an espresso flavoured e-liquid might be for you. Or, if you love strawberries, you’re sure to find a strawberry e-juice that you enjoy. Don’t be afraid to mix flavours, either!

Tip #3. Give Yourself Some Time:

Cigarettes contain a small amount of anaesthetic, which is why you can smoke when you’re feeling unwell or continue to chain smoke for a while without coughing up your guts. On the other hand, this isn’t present in your e-liquid, so be prepared for it to feel harsher when you first begin vaping. The good news here is that you can use this to help yourself choose the right flavour, nicotine levels, and wattage for you. Eventually, as you become more used to vaping you will find that you cough less and less. In fact, switching to vaping from smoking means that you are less likely to experience smoker’s cough and will find it easier to catch your breath. Even if it feels harsh on your throat in the beginning, persevere and you’ll soon see improvements. Of course, if you’re still coughing after a while, it might be worth considering switching to a different atomiser, coil or e-liquid.

Tip #4. Get Some Support:

Making the transition from smoking to vaping isn’t always clean-cut and simple, and just like with any other method of quitting smoking, you might find yourself in need of some support.  There’s no shame in attending a stop smoking support group if you are vaping, you can definitely do it by trying safe devices like the DAVINCI MIQRO; think of it just like any other nicotine replacement therapy, such as nicotine patches and gum. You might also want to look online for blogs, forums, and social media groups where you can find people in a similar situation to yourself to share tips and experiences and get support from each other. If you have a friend or family member who also wants to give up smoking, switching to vaping together can make the experience much more enjoyable, as you’ll be able to regularly try each other’s e-liquid flavours and talk about what works best for you.

Tip #5. Adjusting Your Nicotine Levels:

Today in the UK, you can purchase e-liquids in two different formats. Smaller, 10ml bottles tend to come pre-mixed with nicotine, which can be anything from just 3mg to 18mg. Many new vapers start out with a higher concentration of nicotine but bear in mind that this may not be suitable for some kits. It’s worth speaking to the experts at the store where you bought your kit to work out which nicotine concentration is the best choice. If you vape a lot, a lower concentration of nicotine should be more than enough to provide you with the amount that you need to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Secondly, you can buy larger bottles of e-liquid that come without nicotine; you will need to purchase the 10ml bottle of nicotine separately, or in most cases, this will come free when you buy the liquid. This allows you to mix your own e-juice and nicotine together, which is perfect if you’re at a stage where you want to reduce the amount of nicotine that you vape. You can mix one or more 10ml bottles of nicotine with your liquid to produce the required concentration, or add it in when you fill up your tank.

Tip #6. Choose the Right Provider:

Last but not least, it’s important to always get your vaping equipment and e-liquids from a reputable vape provider. Steer clear of anything that looks too good to be true; remember that vape kits are, at the end of the day, electronic devices which can pose several health risks if not chosen and looked after correctly. The right vape store will not only provide you with the right set-up for your needs, but will also be able to provide you with valuable advice for looking after your kit and how to get the most from it.

Switching to vaping from smoking isn’t always as easy as it looks, but it is certainly worth it for your health and well-being.
